Chromium (Cr) depletion is a critical indicator of material degradation and corrosion behavior in metallic materials. However, conventional corrosion evaluation methods are time-consuming and rely on post-exposure characterization. In this study, we propose a Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS)-based depth profiling technique to rapidly assess Cr depletion. Continuous laser ablation enables rapid, depth-resolved elemental analysis with minimal sample preparation and high spatial resolution. Samples with near-surface Cr depletion were prepared by accelerating Cr dissolution through potentiostaic anodic dissolution in binary alloy specimen. For these samples, we investigate the relationship between changes in acoustic signals measured during continuous laser ablation and changes in surface depth. Elemental emission intensities and acoustic signals are integrated to evaluate depth-dependent Cr concentration profiles. The proposed approach is expected to provide a practical method for rapidly characterizing Cr depletion and contribute to the development of LIBS-based depth profiling techniques for metallic materials and corrosion assessment. |
