| Abstract Scope |
Mg-alloys primarily deform through twinning, and their twinning behavior is strongly influenced by alloying elements. Our previous study demonstrated that Al and Y have much different effects on twin nucleation and growth. This conclusion was supported by the quantitative characterization of twin geometric features using an automated approach to analyze two-dimensional EBSD datasets. In the present study, this statistical analysis method is extended to a broader range of Mg-alloys to further investigate the relationships between twin geometric characteristics and alloying effects (such as Zn and Ca). In addition, the directional characteristics of twin transmutation across grain boundaries are systematically analyzed in different Mg-alloys. The relationship between lateral and forward twin transmutation, grain boundary characteristics, and the governing factors are also examined to improve the understanding of twin propagation mechanisms in Mg-alloys. |
