Recent developments in constitutive model calibration have significantly enhanced the efficiency and effectiveness of parameter optimization, especially for complex models. This presentation outlines four calibration research thrusts.
1. Full-field calibration utilizes spatially distributed data to optimize model parameters. This approach leverages finite element analysis algorithms employing automatic differentiation for gradient-based optimization.
2. Surrogate models can be employed to approximate the calibration forward problem efficiently. These models require tailoring techniques to specific materials and test configurations for reliable parameter optimization.
3. Real-time optimal experimental design maximizes information gain during testing through a closed-loop feedback system that dynamically controls the experimental procedure, targeting uncertainties in the model parameters.
4. Context-specific calibration addresses model form error by minimizing its impact on predictions of quantities of interest. This method exploits the relationship between calibration error and analysis error to improve predictions.
