| Abstract Scope |
Composition-process-microstructure-property correlations are at the heart of the field of materials science. In industry, microstructure has historically been considered largely through the lens of optical microscopy along with limited scanning electron microscopy. The development and commercialization of the electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) technique has completely changed this paradigm, particularly in the last 15 years as detector speeds have increased and small businesses performing EBSD as a service have been established. EBSD has many uses within the aerospace industry including material and process development, failure analysis, and providing inputs into mechanism-based modeling frameworks. This talk will cover several of these applications through the use of case studies. |
