| Abstract Scope |
Differential thermal analysis (DTA) and Heat-Flow Differential Scanning Calorimetry (HF-DSC) techniques are standard techniques to study the melting and solidification of alloys. Nonetheless, these techniques are limited to cooling rates below 30°C/min. To overcome this challenge, a new technique was developed by coupling an Infrared Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC) with a High-Temperature Infrared Furnace to achieve fast heating and cooling rates (120 to 720°C/min) on steel samples in alumina crucibles. A simple heat-transfer model of this technique was developed and calibrated using the melting and freezing of pure Cu and Fe. The technique was then applied to study the solidification and δ to γ transformation in low-carbon B-containing steels. |
