Abstract Scope |
The characteristics of a powder feedstock have a significant effect on the process and final part quality in powder blown laser directed energy deposition (L-DED) additive manufacturing. This talk encompasses a few studies on L-DED that investigate the relationships among powder characteristics, processing, and the final microstructure. Some of the powder feedstock studied include irregular-shaped powder like hydride-dehydride (HDH) titanium alloys, recycled swarf titanium alloys, molybdenum feedstock, and single particle impact on a melt pool. With high-speed imaging and material characterization, the powder feedstock characteristics of shape, size, and material are linked to melt pool dynamics and phase transformations during solidification. |
