| Abstract Scope |
Residual stress is a major challenge in laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) of AlSi10Mg alloy due to rapid heating and cooling, which create high thermal gradients during fabrication. These stresses can affect dimensional accuracy, microstructural stability, mechanical performance, and corrosion behavior. This study investigates the effect of laser scan speed on residual stress, microstructure, porosity, and corrosion behavior of LPBF-produced AlSi10Mg samples. The LPBF samples are also compared with cast AlSi10Mg to evaluate differences between additively and conventionally manufactured materials.
Selected samples undergo post-processing heat treatment to relieve residual stresses and modify the as-built microstructure. Residual stress and phase evolution are characterized using nanoindentation and X-ray diffraction. Microstructure, pore distribution, defect morphology, and corrosion behavior in 3.5% NaCl solution are analyzed using microscopy, X-ray microscopy, and electrochemical testing. |
