| Abstract Scope |
Dissolved non-metallic species, particularly oxide ions, are of critical importance to the stability and corrosivity of molten salt systems. In this work, Fourier-Transformed Alternating Current Voltammetry (FT-ACV) was implemented because it has been previously shown to improve signal clarity and sensitivity. This approach has been demonstrated with soluble-soluble reactions and metal deposition but remains un-validated for dissolved gases. Herein we use a molten halide test system to test the analytical feasibility of the approach, including the potential to bypass reliance on a true reference electrode. We also compare effectiveness of multiple electrode materials. The results suggest that FT-ACV is a promising option for improving on-line monitoring of corrosion-relevant impurities in harsh environments, such as some Gen IV nuclear reactor designs. |
