Abstract Scope |
A major technical hurdle to the deployment of a molten salt reactor (MSR) is the lack of understanding into how the structure and dynamics of molten salts impact their physical and chemical properties. This invited talk will discuss the use of synchrotron-based X-ray spectroscopy molten to characterize molten salts at operationally relevant temperatures. This work is supported by the US Department of Energy’s Nuclear Energy University Program, Award ID: DE-NE0008772, 18-15065: “in situ Measurement and Validation of Uranium Molten Salt Properties at Operationally Relevant Temperatures,” and Award ID: DE-NE0009386, 23-28941: “Multiple Uranium Complexes in Chloride Fast Reactor Molten Salt Properties”. |
