| Abstract Scope |
Beneficiation of individual and combined primary copper and EAF slags with various fluxes were investigated. The slags were blended to attain self-fluxing and explored to assess their potential for synergistic recovery. Throughout the tests, various metal (referred to as metal 2) and slag (referred to as slag 2) products were produced. The effects of furnace temperature and residence time on the quality of the metal produced were systematically assessed. The metal products were evaluated for percent metal recovery, while slag 2 was examined for potential use in the construction sector. Iron recoveries of approximately 95% were attained at furnace temperatures of 1535°C and residence times of 30 min. The feasibility of the use of slag 2 as a cement additive (10 wt%) was established. An adequate blending ratio of the slags to support operations at lower temperatures and residence times, and promote maximum iron recovery to metal 2 was identified. |
