| Abstract Scope |
In this study, a biodegradable and environmentally benign deep eutectic solvent (DES) composed of decanoic acid and lidocaine is synthesized and used in the solvent extraction of scandium. It was found that percent extraction of Sc(III) increased at high initial Sc(III) concentration, high extraction time and aqueous solution pH. It was also observed that at high Sc(III) concentration, white precipitate formed at all pH and extraction time combinations. For pH 2.5 and 4.5, increasing extraction duration does not affect extraction of Sc(III). Extraction was stable at around 82-83%. Increasing decanoic acid in the DES promotes higher distribution ratio and Sc(III) extraction. The conventional slope analysis showed that the extraction mechanism is proton exchange, and it can be expressed as:
Sc(aq)3++3DecA(org)-+LidH(org)+→Sc(DecA)3∙Lid(org)+H(aq)+
Overall, DecA:Lid DES represents a promising and effective candidate for scandium extraction from aqueous nitric acid solutions. |
