| Abstract Scope |
Cold spray additive manufacturing (CSAM) is a solid-state deposition technique that enables high-rate fabrication, repair, and coating of metallic components while minimizing thermal distortion and phase transformations associated with fusion-based processes. In this study, Inconel 625 (IN625) deposits were fabricated using CSAM under varied gas temperature and pressure conditions to evaluate the influence of processing parameters on deposition quality, microstructure, and mechanical performance. The as-received IN625 powder was characterized using particle-size distribution analysis and observations of particle morphology to support process-parameter selection. The resulting deposits were evaluated through density measurements, cross-sectional microstructural examination by scanning electron microscopy, microhardness testing, and tensile testing before and after hot isostatic pressing to assess densification, interparticle bonding, microstructural evolution, and mechanical response. These findings demonstrate the potential of CSAM for tailoring IN625 deposits for high-performance repair and additive manufacturing applications in aerospace, marine, and other demanding service environments. |
