| Abstract Scope |
Operando X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) is essential for resolving the oxidation state and local coordination changes that govern performance in energy materials, but such measurements have traditionally required scarce, time-limited synchrotron beamtime. In this presentation, we show operando data tracking battery cathode chemistry during cycling: NMC electrodes cycled from 3-4.5V reveal Ni2+ to Ni3+ redox transitions and evolving Ni-O/Ni-M coordination, resolved within minutes per spectrum. We also present oxidation state and coordination number results for low-loading energy catalysts, including Pt-hBN hydrogen-generation catalysts and refinery Ni catalysts down to 0.3 wt%, drawn from high-resolution XANES and EXAFS spanning to k=15. These measurements, ordinarily confined to synchrotron facilities, are made possible in the lab by QuantumLeap 2100, whose high flux, sub-0.7 eV resolution, and high-throughput acquisition enable synchrotron-quality operando characterization of batteries and catalysts on demand. |
