| Abstract Scope |
Intermetallic phases of transition metal stannides often exhibit complicated crystal structures, which are usually closely related to simple crystal structures of (disordered) solid solutions of classical metallic alloys. If these intermetallic phases even show polytypic transitions, identifying the correct phases becomes challenging. Spherical indexing can be used to exploit the subtle differences in diffraction patterns between different phases, polytypes and orientation domains to achieve correct indexing. Elaborated structure models as basis for the indexing can help to interpret the microstructure of phases with stacking irregularities. On basis of binary Cu-Sn and Co-Sn phases we demonstrate the capabilities of local phase interpretation corroborated by XRD and TEM experiments. |
