Abstract Scope |
The demand for niobium continues to grow in high-end manufacturing, alloys, and aerospace fields in recent years. However, Many complex niobium resources, such as the Bonga deposit in Angola, the Ghurayyah deposit in Saudi Arabia, and Bayan Obo in China, remain unresolved. How to achieve the extraction and utilization of complex niobium resources is a major issue that must be addressed for now and the future. Here, a high temperature reduction-sulphuration strategy was proposed for transforming and separating niobium from complex Bayan Obo symbiotic ore resources. After reduction-sulphuration process, niobium-bearing minerals were converted into niobium-bearing sulfide, which was separated from slag naturally. The separation process of niobium is similar to that of chalcophile metals through matte separation, but the transformation mechanisms are entirely different. Besides, the effects of temperature on niobium recovery were discussed in this study. This strategy offers an effective solution for the development of niobium resources. |
