| Abstract Scope |
A substantial number of coarse Nb-rich phase particles precipitates during the solidification of the 22Cr-25Ni-WCuCoNbN austenitic heat-resistant steel. These particles cannot be eliminated through subsequent thermomechanical processing. Consequently, they tend to act as preferential sites for the initiation of fatigue cracks. In this study, the rare-earth Ce was introduced during melting to increase the nucleation temperature of the Nb-rich phase, enabling its nucleation within the liquid region. This approach markedly enhances the nucleation rate and promotes the dispersed precipitation of Nb-rich phases. Ce-containing inclusions serve as heterogeneous nucleation substrates for Nb-rich phases, thereby facilitating their precipitation. As a result, part of the Nb-rich phase adheres to these rare-earth inclusions, forming core-shell structures characterized as Nb-rich phase@Ce-inclusion. Meanwhile, the rare-earth inclusions also function as heterogeneous nuclei for austenite, contributing to the refinement of the solidification microstructure. This work provides a foundation for improving the mechanical properties of the steel. |
