| Abstract Scope |
This paper presents a series of unconventional insights using a smelter-wide anode traceability platform integrating an online resistivity measurement device, two complementary 3D inspection systems, and an automated core sampling unit.
Rather than focusing on standard analyses, this work shows how advanced traceability enables new, non-traditional insights, such as online anode butt density patterns. The traceability platform can help resolve long-standing debates between reduction and carbon operations, for instance by identifying the root causes of bent stems. Furthermore, combining both 3D data enables the linking of oxidized butts to stud degradation.
Overall, this work illustrates how a mature traceability platform can unlock new relationships, improving process understanding and better quantifying the impact of operations. |
