Abstract Scope |
OpenVCAD is an open-source volumetric design toolkit developed to efficiently represent and fabricate functionally graded multi-material objects. This talk provides a practical overview of recent enhancements and demonstrates how users can effectively leverage OpenVCAD’s Python library for designing functionally graded objects. Through real-world examples, attendees will gain actionable insights into creating sophisticated designs compatible with various additive manufacturing systems. We will showcase new capabilities such as advanced mesh exporting, seamless interoperability with finite element analysis software, and native tools for multi-material lattice design. Additionally, we will demonstrate our design studio environment, which allows for writing and interactively visualizing design scripts in a unified platform. We will also present physically printed multi-material, functionally graded artifacts, including those featuring mechanical gradients. This session equips attendees with foundational knowledge to adopt OpenVCAD into their workflows, bridging the gap between complex multi-material design concepts and practical implementation. |
