| Abstract Scope |
Ultra-high-strength hydropower steel is essential for pressure-bearing structures in large hydropower projects, where welded-joint performance governs service safety. This study used thermodynamic calculations to clarify the effects of C, Mn, Ni, Cr, Mo and welding cooling rate on post-weld phase constitution and hardness. The alloying effect decreased in the order C > Mn > Mo > Cr > Ni. At 5 °C/s, each 0.01 wt.% increase in C raised the martensite fraction by 4.50 percentage points and hardness by 9.60 HV, whereas the same increase in Ni raised them by only 0.23 percentage points and 0.30 HV. At constant composition, martensite fraction and hardness increased with cooling rate, most markedly from 1 to 10 °C/s, increasing from 3.83% to 86.33% and from 327.48 to 372.58 HV, respectively. These results support composition and welding-process optimization for ultra-high-strength hydropower steel. |
