| Abstract Scope |
Novel HEAs are being explored by Fermilab for use as accelerator beam windows in future multi-megawatt target systems to potentially improve resistance to beam-induced radiation damage and thermal shock effects caused by the 120 GeV pulsed proton beam. Several low-density AlCoCrMnTiV alloys with 4 – 6 component elements predicted by CALPHAD simulation to be single-phase BCC with some compositions displaying ordered, nanoscale precipitates are being studied. Alloy design and synthesis will be briefly discussed before a detailed description of the properties of these HEAs in the pristine and irradiated state. Results from low-energy heavy ion irradiations to high damage levels and from a high-power, high-intensity pulsed proton irradiation to induce thermal shock effects will be presented. Initial bulk thermal and mechanical property measurements will also be discussed. The talk will conclude with our plans for alloy down-selection prior to a future proto-typical high-energy proton irradiation. |
