| Abstract Scope |
Binder Jetting (BJ) has emerged as a promising additive manufacturing technique, positioning itself as a competitive alternative to conventional powder metallurgy and casting processes. Its ability to fabricate complex geometries at high build rates, without thermal gradients during printing, makes it attractive for large-scale production. However, achieving consistent part density and mechanical performance remains a challenge. Parameter optimisation can enhance productivity and material quality, but the influence on microstructure evolution and resulting properties is not yet fully understood.
This research evaluates the effects of processing conditions on the microstructure and mechanical performance of BJ-produced Titanium Matrix Composite (TMC) components, focusing on defects formed under different conditions. Understanding these defects and their impact on material behaviour is essential for validating BJ.
The study also examines post-processing routes, including thermal treatments, sintering, Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP), and mechanical methods such as cold rolling, to assess their role in densification and defect mitigation. |
