Abstract Scope |
This talk will report the results of computational modeling studies of dendritic microstructure development in relation to the
TRANSPARENT-CETSOL1 campaign of directional solidification experiments carried out in the Transparent Alloy facility aboard the ISS using Neopentyl Glycol (NPG)-D-Camphor (DC) alloys. The computational studies make use of both phase-field (PF) simulations to investigate the dendrite tip kinetics and Dendritic Needle Network (DNN) simulations to study the dynamics of spatially extended dendritic arrays on the sample scale. The predicted primary dendrite spacings are found to be in good quantitative agreement with experiments for <100> dominated dendritic microstructures. |
