| Abstract Scope |
To elucidate the role of planar defects in phase transformation and electrochemical performance of a proton-based thermal battery material, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and atom probe tomography (APT) were employed to unravel the structural and compositional evolutions along grain boundaries prior and after deuteration of the LaNi5 alloy. The correlations among 3-dimentional nanoscale distributions of metallic elements, interstitial deuterium and grain boundary characteristics showcase the microstructural design strategy via planar defects to improve electrochemical properties. |
