This study investigated the synthesis of Mo–B alloys through the SHS method using oxidized raw materials. The synthesized products were characterized by XRD and SEM. Due to their high melting temperatures, Mo–B alloys are generally difficult and costly to manufacture using conventional processing routes. In this regard, the SHS technique provides a significant advantage, as it is a self-sustaining process that does not require continuous external energy input, making it an efficient approach for the production of molybdenum and its boride compounds. Initial leaching with 6 M HCl was insufficient, as residual undesired phases remained in the product. Therefore, additional leaching experiments were performed using 8 M and 10 M HCl solutions. The results demonstrated that leaching the SHS product synthesized with 105% Mg in 10 M HCl effectively removed MgO impurities, yielding a final product composed solely of Mo, MoB, and MoB₂ phases. |
