Abstract Scope |
In Bangladesh, solar power plants, referred to as ‘solar parks’ in government policies, are a cornerstone of the nation's renewable energy strategy. This paper examines the waste footprint of these installations, focusing on the 67 planned solar parks, including those already in production, under development and planned by 2030. Four standard estimation models were compared- direct decommissioning, the United Nations University guidelines and the International Renewable Energy Agency guidelines for ‘regular’ and ‘early’ scenario. This study reports the waste generated from end-of-life solar photovoltaic cells over time and explores their economic impacts estimating the value of recoverable resources at forecasted timelines. The findings highlight the sustainability challenges posed by waste management in solar parks and propose strategies for mitigating environmental and economic repercussions. |
