The lithium-ion battery is one of the most transformative technologies of our time, but its future depends on how we address persistent limitations in safety, performance, and manufacturability. In this talk, I will share how our team at UCLA and Nanotech Energy is tackling these issues through the design and integration of functional nanomaterials. These materials enable lithium-ion batteries that are not only safer and longer-lasting but also deliver higher performance across a range of demanding applications—including consumer electronics, data centers, micro-mobility, and residential energy storage. These developments are now being scaled at our 150 MWh production facility in Chico, California, demonstrating a clear path from materials discovery to real-world impact. |
