| Abstract Scope |
The present work analyzed the heat treatment design of an as-cast Inconel IN-718 superalloy. The homogenizing treatment was conducted at 1070 °C for 5 h to eliminate the dendritic structure of superalloy. Then, a precipitation hardening treatment was carried out by solution treatment at 1080 °C for 5 h and subsequently aged at 600 °C for 8 h. Heat-treated specimens were microstructurally characterized using optical microscope, scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, and Vickers hardness. Thermo-Calc software was employed to analyze the solidification microstructure with Scheil module, the homogenization treatment with Dictra, and the precipitation process with Prisma. The present work results indicated that the as-cast specimen microstructure is mainly composed of phase dendrites and (NbTi) carbides. The homogenizing treatment reduced the microsegregation of superalloy. Besides, the aging treatment promoted the precipitation of the gamma´ phase. The experimental results showed good agreement with the Thermo-Calc calculated ones. |
