| Abstract Scope |
Titanium micro-pillar compression was used to evaluate the critical resolved shear stresses for different slip systems in Ti6Al4V. The deformation behaviour of single alpha phase micro-pillars and of alpha-beta two-phase micro-pillars is summarised. The single phase pillars featured heterogeneous slip bands; the two phase alloy displayed more homogeneous slip traces. The dislocation organisation in the deformed pillars was studied using TEM. The role of the alpha-beta interfaces and of the crystallographic orientation of the micro-pillars in the plastic deformation behaviour will be discussed in the light of the slip systems observed to be activated in the TEM and via the slip trace analysis. |
