Abstract Scope |
Laser Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) is an effective technology for producing complex geometries and specialized material applications. PBF-LB systems rely on different file preparation workflows to produce CAD designs into printed parts. Variations in PBF-LB digital workflows introduce complexity in outcome consistency. This project focused on evaluating four PBF-LB workflow systems using a set of performance criteria to analyze and determine general differences related to part quality. In this study, modularity of PBF-LB workflows was evaluated based on the development and printing of a test specimen designed to measure machine parameter flexibility and model comparison. Additional criteria were measured via user training and build file preparation time tracking for human input in the Ease-of-Use and accessibility aspect of machine software comparison. The results of these assessments will provide insights into PBF-LB system comparability, emphasizing machine, part quality, and user experience. |
