Abstract Scope |
Since its commissioning in 2009, a sloped Aerated Distribution System (ADS) has been running in an aluminium smelter to transport secondary alumina. We have gained extensive experience reliability, maintenance and air consumption. In this article, we share the most important findings from this long-term operation and show how the system ensures stable material distribution with low energy consumption and very little maintenance.
Thanks to the air-based design without moving parts, regular flushing or frequent intervention is not necessary. In addition, air consumption remains significantly lower than with other systems.
The study contains figures on spare parts requirements, maintenance intervals and the most important experiences from ongoing operation. We also provide insights into the most important lessons we have learned – such as how the system reacts to fluctuations in material properties.
Overall, this report provides insights for the planning and evaluation of future conveyor systems in the aluminium industry. |
