| Abstract Scope |
Metal spinning has proven to be a valuable manufacturing technique for
producing radially symmetric components. In this study, the metallurgical
phenomena that drive successful spinning operations will be explored and
used to experimentally validate a process model. Two starting geometries
will be compared to assess failure reduction and localized strain. Resulting
microstructure morphology will be explored using electron microscopy
and electron backscatter diffraction, and resulting mechanical properties
will be explored using tensile testing and hardness mapping. Spinning
simulations will be run in parallel with, and validated using, experimental
data. The results of this study are expected to be of interest to
manufacturers exploring the versatility of metal spinning, as well as
researchers interested in understanding the mechanisms behind it. |
