| Abstract Scope |
The aim of the present study is to enhance the stress recovery capability of the β Nb phase in Nb-Ni-Ti alloy by using shape memory effect of the NiTi phase. Nb-29.2at%Ni-40.8at%Ti alloy samples are prepared by the following sequences; homogenization treatment – cold rolling – recrystallization treatment – pre-straining – healing heat treatment. The microstructure is consisted of primary βNb and βNb-NiTi eutectic structure. Twinned to detwinned martensitic transformation occurs during room temperature tensile test. After pre-straining up to 600 MPa, martensite to austenite transformation temperature increases significantly. The healing treatment of the pre-strained samples at 120℃, 170 ℃ and 200 ℃ for 1 h induces the reverse transformation from detwinned to twinned martensite, leading to enhanced mechanical property when compared with the sample without healing treatment. The study shows that healing treatment can contribute to the stress recovery of Nb which is a potential candidate for hydrogen permeable membrane. |
