Abstract Scope |
Polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS) is a transparent and thermally insulating polymer. In our study, we incorporated silver-coated silica nanoshells (SNS) into the PDMS matrix. . We added SNS in varying concentrations of 1%, 2%, and 3% by weight. After the incorporation, we used FTIR to study the polymerisation of PDMS and UV-visible spectroscopy to study its optical properties. To study the thermal properties, we utilised a modified drop evaporation method. We found that the optical transparency decreased from 95% to 10% after incorporating 3% SNS by weight in the visible range. There was no difference in drop evaporation rate in all the samples at room temperature, but at 80ºC heating temperature, the evaporation rate was higher in the sample with 3% SNS, followed by 2% SNS. This study suggests that incorporating SNS in PDMS can enhance the heat transfer characteristics of PDMS which can be useful in microfluidic applications |
