| Abstract Scope |
Materials that withstand extreme environments without performance sacrifice are an indelible part of the US DoD and Navy forces. Recent advances at NRL in high-temperature polymer matrix composites (PMCs), carbon-carbon (C-C) composites and polymer derived ceramics (PDCs) offer desirable properties enabling their use in lightweight structural components, ablatives and engine components in a variety of platforms. This talk is intended as a broader overview on technological advances in our research creating pre-ceramic polymers and PDCs that offer easy preparation, excellent processing into ceramics and excellent thermal and ablative properties while lowering costs to produce parts when compared to existing technology. |
