| Abstract Scope |
PRISMS-Fatigue is a novel open-source framework that enables simulation-based comparisons of microstructures with regard to fatigue resistance for polycrystalline metals and alloys. The framework uses the crystal plasticity finite element software PRISMS-Plasticity as its microstructural analysis tool. In the current work, the capability of PRISMS-Fatigue to investigate the fatigue resistance of additively manufactured (AM) materials is demonstrated. A crystal plasticity model is employed that captures the evolution of tensorial back stress associated with micro-residual stresses. Effects of microstructure, defect density, and location are analyzed using PRISMS-Fatigue for AM materials. Finally, the incorporation of PRISMS-Fatigue in AM design and analysis are reviewed. |
