| Abstract Scope |
Enhanced formability in Mg- Y alloys have been actively studied and shown to display non-basal slip. Previously, the “as-extruded” microstructure aligned to the Extrusion Direction (ED) was investigated via in situ tensile test on a polycrystalline Mg-1wt.%Y and found the dominate form of deformation mode was <c+a> slip activation. To characterize deformation mechanisms in polycrystalline Mg Alloys, multi-length scale characterization techniques were deployed to capture the complexity of microstructural evolution and mechanical performance. Utilizing in situ tensile testing in a scanning electron microscope (SEM) in conjunction with High Resolution Electron Back Scatter Diffraction (HR-EBSD), and Digital Image Correlation (DIC) coupled with Ex-Situ Electron Channeling Contrast Imaging (ECCI) this investigation explores the multi-scale relationships between microstructure, properties, and performance in Mg alloys. |
