Abstract Scope |
Silicon is an essential element in products and processes for the modern society. Current silicon production and recycling processes are carbon intensive and/or challenging in terms of low yield and challenging by-products. In the paper, results on new processes for both production (metallothermic and hydrogen-based) and recycling of silicon from a number of EU projects (SisAl pilot, RESILEX etc) and national Norwegian projects will be discussed with basis in existing thermodynamic knowledge of both slag, metal and gasesous systems. Limitations in current knowledge are also discussed. |
