| Abstract Scope |
Real-time knowledge of molten salt chemistry is critical to the safe and efficient operation of molten salt reactors, where impurities and redox conditions directly affect corrosion, fuel behavior, and materials performance. Over the past two decades, electrochemical methods have become central to understanding the thermodynamics, kinetics, and redox behavior of molten salt systems. Two techniques—potentiometry and voltammetry—have proven especially valuable for this purpose. This talk reviews the current status of electrochemical monitoring in molten fluoride and chloride salts, with emphasis on redox potential measurements and the detection of corrosion products, oxide species, and moisture impurities, along with applications relevant to molten salt reactors. |
