| Abstract Scope |
The spatial arrangement of elements at the local level significantly influences the physical properties of high entropy materials. Therefore, identifying individual elements at the sub-nanometer level is essential for understanding how elemental distribution relates to material behavior. Likewise, the effects of local chemical order (LCO) on the characteristics of HEAs, have been extensively examined. Nevertheless, the challenge of clearly detecting LCO with high accuracy presents a significant obstacle to developing microscopic explanations for how LCO influences physical characteristics. Additionally, whether LCO is present on the surfaces of HEAs remains uncertain, potentially affecting surface-dependent properties like corrosion resistance, oxidation behavior, and catalytic performance. We present results from first principles calculations and advanced characterization methods that not only distinguish multi principal elements at the surface of a HEA but also comprehensively demonstrate the presence of local ordering. |
