Abstract Scope |
A report of a room-temperature superconductor, LK-99, recently stirred excitement in chemistry and physics communities. While teams reproducing the complicated synthesis have yet to confirm superconductivity in any of their samples, there are many outlying questions about the synthesis of this complex ceramic. This work explores the synthetic mechanisms of the reported synthesis of LK-99 via in situ synchrotron diffraction. The additional phases that may affect the unique properties observed in originally synthesized samples are identified, and the conditions under which they form are identified. In this work, we show that the use of in situ diffraction to identify intermediates provides crucial information for ceramic synthesis and properties that have been previously unobtainable. |
