| Abstract Scope |
Hydrogen is being widely explored as a potential alternative for energy and propulsion creation. Designing systems within a hydrogen environment is often difficult, however, due to potential deleterious material interactions, particularly metal embrittlement. Nickel Alloy 725 has shown promise for replacement of legacy materials; however, the role of varied precipitate features and their interaction with hydrogen is not well understood. This study aims to characterize Alloy 725 microstructures with varied thermal treatments to observe the effect of changing precipitate morphology on hydrogen susceptibility when they are exposed to electrochemically pre-charged hydrogen and tensile loading. These findings will enhance our understanding of the influence of varied precipitate morphology on hydrogen embrittlement in legacy and emerging Ni-based alloys. |
