Abstract Scope |
Soda lime silicate glass produced by the float process is among the materials with the largest production worldwide. Besides this, its surface still represents interesting conundrums and unexplored properties.
Herein, we investigate the interaction between the soda lime glass and water by different spectroscopic techniques. The results show that the incorporation of H2O in the Na+ sites leads to substantial modification of the glass structure from the short to the medium range. These eventually impact the glass properties, including the resistance to crack nucleation. |
