| Abstract Scope |
β-Ti based superelastic alloys have been attracted increasing attention due to their potential applications in biomedical devices. However, despite the big efforts devoted by many researchers, the superelastic recovery strain of β-Ti alloys reported so far is inferior to those of versatile Ti-Ni based superelastic alloys. It is well known that superelasticy in β-Ti alloys is attributed to the reversible phase transformation from parent β phase to martensite α" phase. Superelastic recovery strain due to stress induced martensitic transformation is reported to be strongly dependent on the transformation strain, which is largest along the <110>β direction. We have found the addition of Zr with keeping the martensitic transformation temperature (Ms) constant is effective for the enhancement in transformation strain in Ti-Nb alloysThe superelastic recovery strain can also be enhanced by thermomechanical treatment. In this study, we investigated the effect of thermomechanical treatment condition on the superelastic properties of (Ti-50Zr)-Mo-Sn alloys. |
