Abstract Scope |
To clarify the formation behavior of graphite and segregation behavior of Si during solidification of cast iron, the unidirectional solidification experiment of Fe-3.5 mass% C-2 mass% Si alloy was performed. The solidified structure and solute distribution were analyzed by FE-EPMA-WDS.
Together with the dendrite structure of the primary austenite, flake graphite was formed at the rather small cooling rate whereas the eutectic colony structure was formed at the higher cooling rate. The flake graphite was formed mainly between the dendrite arms. On the other hand, the eutectic colonies grow radially without constraints from primary γ dendrites where Si showed negative segregation and concentrated at the boundaries of colonies. |
