Abstract Scope |
The aluminum industry needs to develop for greater energy and material efficiency to reduce CO2 intensity. Conventional production methods based on direct chill casting are constrained by high energy demand and process complexity. Modern continuous casting processes, such as Block Casting (Nexcast) and Twin Roll Casting (TRC), offer simplified and consolidated process routes with reduced equipment footprint, lower reheating losses, and improved yield. These technologies contribute to circular metallurgy by facilitating more efficient use of recycled material and improving overall process integration. They support localized production near scrap sources and end use, reducing transport needs and increasing flexibility in material flow. In addition, the streamlined process chain allows for cost efficient production of both standard and advanced products, even at moderate volumes in a fragmented market environment. |
