| Abstract Scope |
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive technique that visualizes internal body structures without ionizing radiation, making it ideal for clinical diagnosis and disease monitoring. MRI contrast agents improve image quality by altering proton relaxation times, helping differentiate healthy from diseased tissues. Recent advances have led to the development of manganese-based nanoparticle agents, including Mn-doped silica nanospheres and Mn-doped silica shells on gold nanorods. These are synthesized using wet chemical methods, allowing precise control over particle size and Mn loading for optimized MRI relaxivity. The silica matrix enhances biocompatibility and regulates Mnē⁺ release, reducing toxicity, while gold nanorod cores add potential for multimodal imaging. Collectively, these Mn-based nanomaterials show promise as safer, more effective MRI contrast agents for cell tracking and disease monitoring, offering improved relaxivity and functionality over traditional agents |
