Abstract Scope |
8xxx alloy of the system Al-Fe-Mn is one of the most common alloys in use for high strength household foil. This paper presents the effect of iron content variation on 8xxx alloy grain structure after homogenization heat treatment. Also, the effect of iron content variation on the recrystallization response of the alloy was shown after intermediate annealing gauge.
CC 8xxx alloy coils with low and high iron content were produced from continuous caster.
Based on the laboratory homogenization study results, a thermo-mechanical process with a lower homogenization temperature was designed for the high and low iron content 8xxx coils. Foil stock gauge samples were collected from the low and high iron content 8xxx coils which were processed using the new modified process. The softening curve at the final foil stock gauge showed an acceleration of the recrystallization process when the iron content of the alloy was low. |
