Abstract Scope |
Defect free casting begins with melt cleanliness and mould filling (i.e. well-designed runner systems). Failure of one of these main components has a significant negative impact on the quality of cast part. Three different mould designs were investigated where 10 cylindrical bars were cast by using A356 alloy. The reliability of the results was evaluated using Weibull analysis and survivability plots. It was found that the highest reliability and reproducible results with the highest elongation at fracture was obtained when tilt casting was used compared to the gravity casting with counter-gravity filling. A direct correlation between Reduced Pressure Test results, bifilm index and mechanical properties were proposed. |
