| Abstract Scope |
Full-Heusler (fH) compounds, X2YZ, with a valence electron count of 24 have attracted interest as thermoelectric materials owing to their semimetallic and semiconducting properties. X and Y are transition metal elements and Z is a main group element. Here, we summarise the progress on Ru2TiSi based fHs, which quite recently emerged as prospective thermoelectrica with a figure of merit close to one. Ru2TiSi is characterised by an almost vanishing band gap and flat bands in the vicinity of the Fermi energy. Due to iosvalent and aliovalent substitutions on all lattice sites, as well as by off-stoichiometric sample preparation the electronic band structure can be tuned appropriately and substitution driven disorder substantially reduces the inherently large lattice thermal conductivity. Phenomenological as well as DFT based theoretical investigations and analyses are discussed.Acknowledgement: Research supported by the Austrian Christian Doppler Society and the Japanese Science and Technology Agency (JST, project MIRAI) |
