The composition of the refining slag determines the purification efficiency and ingot quality in the electroslag remelting of aluminium alloys. To this end, with the aim of developing a high-performance refining slag, this study utilised thermodynamic software to calculate the isothermal phase diagrams and melting behaviour of the KCl–MgCl₂–CaF₂ slag system within the temperature range of 680–1000 °C, thereby optimising the composition ratios. The study found that the CaF₂ content plays a key role in regulating the melting behaviour of the slag system; further analysis indicated that when the CaF₂ content is controlled between 10% and 12.5%, and the KCl/MgCl₂ ratio is moderately reduced, both the melting point and density can be optimised simultaneously. Based on this principle, an optimised slag system combining a low melting point and low density was designed, providing a new formulation reference for the electroslag refining of aluminium alloys. |
